The new gasoline turbo unit equips VW Tiguan model

Volkswagen Company announced the market launch of 2018 Tiguan crossover that is equipped by a new 2.0-liter petrol turbo TSI engine. The motor is a significantly improved and upgraded version of the 4-cylinder EA888 engine. The unit named as EA888 3B, has got an iron block and aluminum alloy pistons and cylinders. As it was noticed previously, the new power plant increased its volume capacity up to 2.0 liters. In addition, the engine has new valve springs and improved variable valve timing.

According to VW representatives, the new TSI turbo engine has a 20% fuel economy and an increased torque. The motor follows the Miller cycle. The compression ratio makes 11.7: 1. It let to achieve “the greatest efficiency in daily use”.

The output of the new power plant is equal to 184 horsepower at 4.4-6 thousand revolutions per minute. The maximum torque is 300 N/m at 1.6-3.9 thousand rpm. There is also installed the chain as the drive of the valve control mechanism. The updated motor will be offered only for VW Tiguan models of 2018 year destined for the North American market. Later the carmakers intend to use this unit in other models of the Company.
