Futuristic Volkswagen I.D. at the Paris Auto Show

I.D. concept on the Volkswagen’s stand interested French public. The concept is a prototype of new generation electric vehicles under Volkswagen brand based on the MEB platform. This is a hatchback with a short hood and roomy cabin. As the carmakers say, the presented show car will transform into production version in 2019-2020 years.

As for the technical equipment, the concept is provided by an electric engine with the capacity of 125 kW (almost 170 horsepower). The traction battery will let move 400-600 km at one charge. Theoretically, the car is able to move in a fully autonomous mode, in particular, it can be called from the parking through the Smartphone. Volkswagen Company plans to install I.D. Pilot system into their models by 2025. In the corners of the roof, there are retractable sensors for self-driving. The new saloon does not include any buttons or levers. Almost all car management is displayed on touch screens and surfaces.

Introducing the I.D. concept the engineers brought into focus that, despite the futuristic exterior, I.D. model is the real Volkswagen, which is posed as a practical vehicle for an ordinary family.
